Privacy Policy

KarmaJar is a free, ad-free Vedic astrology application. This policy explains how information is processed to provide personalized daily astrology information and related activities. This policy describes our current data practices, including how to request deletion.

Information we process

When you set up KarmaJar, you provide a name, date and time of birth, and place of birth. The app also uses birthplace coordinates and time zone for astrology calculations. If you allow foreground location access, the app processes your current location, including coordinates and city. The app creates a persistent pseudonymous user identifier and session credentials without requiring an email address or password.

We also process derived birth charts, planetary-period information, preferences, and records of prayer views and completions. Technical information needed to operate and protect the service may be processed, including rate-limit identifiers derived from network information.

Why we use it

We use this information to calculate and display personalized astrology information, provide daily location-relevant activities, remember your preferences, track prayer activity, maintain your app profile, and protect the service against abuse.

Where information is stored

Profile information, birth details, derived charts, current location, and prayer activity are stored on our backend database hosted through Supabase. The app stores session credentials in protected device storage and certain location and activity state in local app storage. Deleting the app alone does not delete server records.

Services involved

Our service uses Vercel for API hosting, Supabase for database services, and Upstash for short-lived security and rate-limit state. Birthplace searches can be sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim; location coordinates may also be sent to Nominatim for reverse geocoding when needed. Device location and reverse-geocoding services may involve your operating-system provider. Opening external video links may take you to YouTube, subject to its own privacy practices.

Advertising and payments

KarmaJar contains no advertisements, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. No third-party advertising or marketing analytics SDK was identified in the application audit. KarmaJar does record prayer views and completions for app functionality and first-party usage analysis, as described above.

Security and retention

Communication with the production API uses HTTPS. Session credentials use protected device storage. Some local location and activity data is stored in ordinary app storage. App profile and activity data remain on the server until deleted through the available deletion process; no automatic expiry is currently defined. Scheduled database backups and point-in-time recovery are not enabled for the current Supabase project. Service providers may retain operational logs or infrastructure-level records under their applicable retention policies, and those records may not be deleted immediately when an app profile is removed.

Your choices and deletion

Foreground location permission can be declined. You can request deletion of your KarmaJar profile and associated records using the in-app deletion function. If you cannot access the app, email info@getkarmajar.com to request assistance; verification may be needed to identify the correct profile. See our Data Deletion page. Uninstalling the app alone does not remove server-side records.

Age requirements and international processing

KarmaJar is intended for adults aged 18 years and above and is not directed toward children under 18. We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a minor has provided information through KarmaJar, contact us at info@getkarmajar.com so we can review and take appropriate action, including deletion where warranted. The app does not currently enforce an age restriction during onboarding. Service providers may process information outside your country of residence.
